The Pogues

December 18th, 2007

My previous post was an article that I submitted to a few newspapers back in November. In it I ranted and raved on about political correctness gone mad and might have touched a few nerves thus it was never run.

I’m now joining you after a quick read of the BBC news website to discover that our dear old friend BBC Radio 1 has decided to edit our just as dear but not quite as old friends The Pogues.

You may ask why, at this time of year would you ban the classic Christmas hit “Fairytale of New York” especially at this time of year when everyone is desperate to sing along with their radios. Well apparently the lyrics (which you can find here) are too offensive to those listening. That’s right, those with differing sexuality’s are supposedly going to find the great karaoke hit offensive with it’s use of the word faggot.

Well I’m glad they’ve done something about it. Then again turns out BBC Radio 2 will be playing the hit intact. Britain’s most listened to Radio station will certainly be what I’m listening to this Christmas season.
